Cross Bike update - Seat tubes and more!

It turns out that this frame uses a unique seat post size: a 30.2. Most seat oversize posts are 31.8, but this one is a little smaller. I wasn't aware of this when I bought the frame, but I found this one on eBay for $19 and it should work nicely:

I would like for the seat post, stem and bars to all be the same brand, mostly for looks, but the available seat posts are kind of rare and seem to be goofy brands, so I was only able to make the seat post and stem match. This is the stem, which was $25:

This stem is for a 1-1/8" steer tube, and for a 31.8 (oversize) handlebar, which I'll be running. This is about all the weird stuff for this bike, the rest should hopefully be straightforward! (famous last words...)

Cross bike update - FRAME ACQUIRED!

I found a great frame on Craigslist in Littleton.

This frame is an alloy Schwinn Fastback CX. The guy got it on some sale on Nashbar and wanted $115 for it. It has some stuff on it that is new for me, such as a integrated headset and a goofy seat post size. This will be a learning experience all around! The guy selling it also was selling a Scattante frame and fork, and I was able to get the fork, for this bike, which is nice because I only have a fork compatible with a standard headset with cups and such. So I was able to get that for another $50. Total cost so far:$165. Next step is a head set!

Cyclocross Commuter Project kickoff

I'm starting a new project, a Cyclocross bike to commute on. Natalie and I have been talking about consolidating to one car, and then I'd commute my short ride to work mostly by bike, which I already do a lot. There are lots of reasons to only have one car, saving money not the least of them. I have a great single speed I built up last summer, but would like something a little more apt to handle inclement weather and with some gears to handle longer trips.

I'm going to be going through how I build it all up to a complete bike, and taking pics and adding them to this blog for a while. So stay tuned for updates!
